MIGRAINE was a Twine story written in response to the prompt "Inside/Outside" during a game jam. I took inspiration from my early-career experiences in financial-technology back-office programming projects. It deals with a descending loop into self-destruction, and asks how you might escape it. It contains adult themes, and all characters/companies are fictional in nature.
Besides simply replying to the prompt, I also wanted to play with the affordances of text-based games. Instead of simply holding items in your inventory, the character holds baggage and physical ailments, and you must figure out how to treat them before moving on. I also wanted to deal with the cyclical trap of certain work environments, and built out the mechanics of managing your inventory to reflect this. If you take the wrong paths, you hit groundhog's day, and forcefully have to retread water before you get another chance to move on.
The story can be navigated by clicking through hyper links in the text. Below the main text, you can see your inventory and feeling inventory. As you progress, your inventory will change, and the narrative will adapt. Explore as you feel! You might even find yourself in the office loop...
